Founded by Janine Carendi MacMurray, AREA Interior Design is a full-service New York City-based interior design studio specializing in high-end residential design. Founder
Janine Carendi MacMurray founded AREA Interior Design in 2006, drawing on her education from Parsons School of Design and her studies in decorative arts in Paris.
MacMurray’s design aesthetic, honed by a childhood between Sweden, Mexico, Colombia and then Connecticut, was further enriched at vibrant auction houses and travels to uncover beloved antiques. Global exposure, specifically her fondness for Scandinavian sensibilities, has deeply informed her extensive knowledge of historical and cultural styles, including sourcing for her ever-growing collection, available through Carendi MacMurray.
AREA Interior Design projects are widely published and celebrated for innovative solutions, melding polish with practicality. Janine’s personal and long-term client relationships are a cornerstone of the firm's success. As a design professor at Parsons over the years, Janine is dedicated to educating and mentoring the future of the industry.
